Sunshine Blogger Award 2017

sunshinebloggerMy blog has been nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award 2017! This is my second time being nominated, and thanks a lot to Renate’s Movie Blog for the nomination.

The rules of the Award are as follows:

  1. Post the award nomination on your blog
  2. Thank the blogger who nominated you
  3. Answer 11 questions assigned to you
  4. Nominate 11 other bloggers for the Award
  5. Ask 11 questions to your nominees

Here are my answers to the questions posed by Renate:

  1. If you could live in any country, which one would it be? Tough, I like some European countries, such as France, Italy and Spain, but I wouldn’t mind living in some exciting city in the US either.
  2. Which movie are you most looking forward to watching at the cinema this year? Villeneuve’sBlade Runner 2049″
  3. If you could discuss one movie with a producer or actor, who would it be and which movie would you discuss? I would discuss “Mulholland Drive” with David Lynch (though he is technically not a producer).
  4. In which Hogwarts house do you belong? Gryffindor, but, like Harry Potter, my natural abilities place me in Slytherin (like all Scorpios, I crave mystery, darkness and the unknown)
  5. Which is your favorite TV-Show atm? I do not have one atm
  6. If you could write a book about yourself, what would the title be? Probably, my name? Maybe a bad choice, but I do not have other ideas atm
  7. If you could go back to the past and change something in your life, what would it be? (but be warned that changing history can be very dangerous) Nothing
  8. Would you rather go to HogwartsXavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters or Starfleet Academy? Hogwarts!
  9. Best thing that will happen in 2017? We will have to see
  10. The best food from your country that you would recommend everyone to try? Russian blini, preferably with some red caviar…
  11. Which movie should everyone watch right now and why? Definitely “The Handmaiden” (2016), because it is a great, thought-provoking film, and if it had a chance to be considered for the Best Foreign-Language Film in the forthcoming Academy Awards, it would have won hands down.

What is favourite movie genre? Action
Do you have a favourite book-to-film adaptation? To Kill A Mockingbird
Samuel L. Jackson, Will Smith, Denzel Washington or Morgan Freeman? Morgan Freeman
Do you have a favourite song in a movie? No I like several.
Do you have a favourite film composer? John Williams is pretty good.
What do you think of movie remakes? It depends. Generally they aren’t that good or overworked.
If you were a well-known film director, with which actors or actresses would you have wanted to work? Liam Neeson, Dallas Howard
The Indiana Jones franchise or the Matrix? Indiana Jones
What do you think of the Academy Awards (Oscars)? After last years fiasco, we’ll see. I saw films that should’ve been nominated that weren’t. Voting for quota, devalues the award, so what’s the point?
If you could speak any language fluently (apart from your native) what would it be? Farsi or Russian.
Any film you are looking forward to watching this year? Yes, something light and uplifting like “A Dog’s Purpose”. I have no idea what the caliber of the flick is, just that it’s not a downer.

    1. What is favourite movie genre? Drama

5.Do you have a favourite film composer? A few.

    6. What do you think of movie remakes? If it’s a movie that people aren’t familiar with, I’m all for it. But, don’t go remaking Scarface…

    7. If you were a well-known film director, with which actors or actresses would you have wanted to work? I’d love to get Angelina Jolie back in a solid drama, Kirsten Dunst too.

    8. The Indiana Jones franchise or the Matrix? Indiana Jones

    9. What do you think of the Academy Awards (Oscars)? I have friends in the Academy, so I fully support it, although some of their winning choices are questionable.

    10. If you could speak any language fluently (apart from your native) what would it be? Spanish and Chinese.

    11. Any film you are looking forward to watching this year? The new Sophia Coppola movie.

Thank you, great responses! The Virgin Suicides is also my favourite ever adaptation. That movie is just perfection. And yeah, Scarface with Al Pacino is already a remake, they are just crazy thinking about remaking the remake.

  7. MIB says:

Apologies for the tardiness of this reply and I hope you don’t mind if I skip the formalities and post it directly to you here.

    1. What is favourite movie genre?

I don’t know about a definite favourite by I do like a good thriller, especially from Korea or Hong Kong.

    2. Do you have a favourite book-to-film adaptation?

    Battle Royale

    3. Samuel L. Jackson, Will Smith, Denzel Washington or Morgan Freeman?

    Probably Morgan Freeman

    4. Do you have a favourite song in a movie?

    “America” from West Side Story

    5. Do you have a favourite film composer?

Not really but you can’t beat John Williams or Japan’s Joe Hisaishi

    6. What do you think of movie remakes?

Depends on the film and the job they do with it. Remaking a film for the sake of it is a cheap and soulless move motivated by financial greed, while some films can benefit from a modern upgrade. US remakes of perfectly good foreign language films also annoy me when the original is usually superior. Learn to read subtitles America! >.<

    7. If you were a well-known film director, with which actors or actresses would you have wanted to work?

As I hope to be a well known director one day I’d probably pick Zhang Ziyi and Takeshi Kitano. 😉

    8. The Indiana Jones franchise or the Matrix?

Indy all the way. I’m probably one of the few people who didn’t like The Matrix.

    9. What do you think of the Academy Awards (Oscars)?

It’s become more of a political and internal popularity contest these days instead of rewarding filmmaking, whilst the idea that films can be nominated before they’ve hit the big screen is also a bit suspect. Plus I think they should include films and actors from across the globe in the top categories instead of a bespoke category, since many great films and performances are overlooked in favour of appeasing the American ego.

    10. If you could speak any language fluently (apart from your native) what would it be?

I’ve tried Japanese and know a few words and phrases but that is it.

    11. Any film you are looking forward to watching this year?

Nothing stands out except maybe Destruction Babies, Shin Godzilla and Star Wars Episode VIII! 😛

Thanks again for the nomination! 🙂

You are welcome, and thank you for your interesting answers. It is interesting to know your favouirte book to film adaptation is Battle Royale, because I love this film too and am currently preparing an article on it. I am also in favour of your idea of nominating actors/ films across the world at the Oscars. It is considered to be the biggest cinema award ceremony internationally, and that’s why I think it is only fair that films outside the strictly american bubble get their chance to shine.

      • MIB says:

Battle Royale is no 3 fave film of all time but I had to wait a few years after seeing the film before the book was published in English to read it, and despite a few changes Kinji Fukasaku really caught the essence of the story and explored the main themes without overburdening the audience with them, giving us a hell of a ride at the same time.

Look forward to reading your post about it when its done! 🙂
